The Bundesliga is the leading German football league and it is generally considered to be the third most important league in Europe. It consists of by 18 teams and it maintains a promotion and relegation system with Second Bundesliga. The league trophy is the DFL-Supercup and all teams compete for the DFB-Pokal.
For many years the most successful team has been FC Bayern Munich, though other prominent champion teams have included Hamburger SV, VfB Stuttgart, Mönchengladbach, Borussia, Borussia Dortmund, and Werder Bremen. The current champions are FC Bayern Munich, though the champions in the previous two seasons were Borussia Dortmund.
