Switzerland continues impressing in their 2018 World Cup campaign

‘’France are the favorites in our group and rightly they are most frequently mentioned as one of the favorites to win the title. I hope that in the third game of Group A, between Switzerland and France, we’re playing for first place in the group’’

This was the response that Switzerland’s head coach Vladimir Petkovic launched during a pre-match conference after being questioned about the possibility that his national side has in making it past the group stages of the 2016 UEFA Euro’s.

Switzerland has historically struggled trying to escape the group stages of the UEFA Euro’s but during the 2016 edition of the international football competition; they managed to break their curse as they finished in the 2nd spot of group A which was enough to advance into the next rounds.

Vladimir Petkovic and his men were later on eliminated at the round of 16 after losing to Poland in a penalty session.

Despite being knocked out by Poland, Switzerland’s campaign during the 2016 UEFA Euro’s was a memorable one, an impressive one as the Swiss reached a stage in international football competition that they had never entered before and their momentum appears to be still pushing Switzerland forward as they are currently at the top of group B in their quest of qualifying for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Switzerland has so far, played 5 qualification matches for the approaching 2018 FIFA World Cup and won all 5 games as they are currently undefeated. Their next game is scheduled to take place on June 9 as the team of Vladimir Petkovic locks horns with Faroe Islands and the Swiss team is expected to come out on top with yet another triumph.

Faroe Islands has been struggling in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign after losing 2 matches, drawing twice and only being able to secure 1 win out of their 5 opening matches while Switzerland has been impressing.
