SWITZERLAND REMAINS AHEAD OF PORTUGAL DESPITE LATVIA WIN

Portugal came off with a win in their World Cup qualifiers game against Latvia last Sunday.

The game, which ended in a 4-1 win, saw Cristiano Ronaldo score twice and miss a penalty, thus ensuring that the Portugal squad ended up with all three points from the game.

Despite this however, the team which came away as Champions in the Euro 2016 competitions are still trailing behind Switzerland who sits on top of the group table. So far, Switzerland has kept its 100 percent record after a fourth straight win in the game against Faroe Island which ended 2-0 in favor of the Swiss national team.

The win which had not come easy for Switzerland had goals in each half from forward Eren Derdiyok and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who captains the Swiss team to ensure that they retain their unbeaten record.

Switzerland is ahead of Portugal with three points, having won their opening World Cup qualifiers game against Portugal in September, a game which was missed by Cristiano Ronaldo due to injuries.
Since then however, the Real Madrid sensational forward, who recently agreed to a new contract with his club and is on the list for the Ballon d'Or award, has scored seven goals out of Portugal's 16 goals in three games so far.

Switzerland sits atop Group B with a total of 12 points from 4 matches while Portugal sits below at second position with 9 points from 4 matches as well. Hungary is at third position with seven points while the recently beaten Faroe is at fourth position with just 4 points.

The other Group B teams, Latvia and Andorra have 3 and 0 points respectively. Switzerland will be facing Latvia at home for their next game while Hungary will travel to Portugal by March next year.
